Nigeria The name Nigeria was taken from the Niger River, an important asset for the Nigerians. Not just a transportation highway but an excellent source of food -fish, including carp, Nile perch, and catfish. It also a source of water to cultivate crops. Nigeria has a very rich history. Nigeria's citizens are to be found in many countries serving in various capacities including top-level leadership. For example, Ms. Obiageli Katryn Ezekwesili is the World Banks’ Vice president for the Africa Region, Ms. Ngozi N. Okonjo-Iweala is also a Managing Director in the same organisation. These are just examples of the many Nigerians you will find all over the world. Nigeria has a population of about 100 million people comprising 250 ethnic groups speaking 4000 dialects. It boasts of a rich diversity from religion to culture to government, etc. In terms of education, Nigeria has a very high level of literacy with great scholars having published several books way back when Africa was still very under developed. Nigerians tend to be very vocal. Compared
to other African countries, most people say that Nigerians talk in ‘loud
voices’. A stranger in Nigeria might find them somewhat ‘abrasive’
if they are not too familiar with them.
